The home page introduces the community and brings together posts, photos, and location-based discovery. Browse the featured content, then continue to the community feed to see more posts.

The 1090 Bicycle Society — Every Ride Counts. banner includes + Add a 1090 Post. For visitors, the note beneath it explains: Free registration • Login required to post.

As you return to the site, the introductory banner may become smaller or disappear. You can still use the site's + Add a 1090 Post action when signed in.

Register, verify your email, and log in

  2. Check your inbox for the verification email. If it does not arrive, check your spam or junk folder.

Discover posts on the map

Map markers represent 1090 Posts with a location attached. Select a marker to see a summary and follow its link to the full post. Zoom and pan to explore another area.

A post does not need a map location: posts without one can still appear in the feed, but they will not have a corresponding map marker.

Use the location text field beneath the map to move the map to a place you want to explore. This changes where you are looking; use the search controls to filter posts.

Search and filter posts

  1. Select the magnifying glass on the map to open or close the search controls.
  2. Enter a keyword, choose a date range, or select categories and subcategories where available.
  3. Select Search to apply your choices.
  4. Select Clear to remove the search filters.

The magnifying glass has a green background when a search is active and a white background when the search is clear. If you cannot find a post, clear the filters and try again.

Create your first 1090 Post

Once signed in with a verified account, select + Add a 1090 Post to open the posting form. Share a ride, a bicycle photo, a useful place, an event, or a story other members might enjoy.

  • Category: Choose the category and subcategory that best fit your post.
  • Title: Give the post a clear, descriptive title.
  • Message: Tell members what you are sharing and why it matters. A title and message are required.
  • Media: Use the available media controls to add images or a supported video link, such as YouTube.
  • Map location: Add a relevant location if you want the post to appear on the community map.
  • Website: Include a relevant website address when that option is available.

You do not need to add photos, a video, or a map location to every post. Include the details that help others understand what you are sharing.

Before saving, check the title, message, category, media, and location. Share only information you are comfortable making public, and upload content you have permission to use.

Location permission and privacy

Your browser may ask for permission to use your device's location. Allow it if you want features that use your current position. Permission is needed to detect your position automatically; browsing posts does not require sharing your location.

If a location feature is not working, check your internet connection and browser permissions. Use the available map or location controls to choose a place manually where supported.

A map pin is part of a public post. Avoid placing it at your home or another private address unless you intend to share that location.

View photos, videos, and post details

Posts can include several images, a YouTube video, and a location. Image slideshows can cycle through the photos. Select a video to play it and use its normal playback or full-screen controls.

Select an embedded map to interact with its zoom and pan controls. Use its full-screen option when available. If the author included a website, a website-link icon appears on the post.

When you are signed in and viewing your own post, use its edit icon to make changes.

Rate posts and join the conversation

Ratings and comments appear beneath posts. Sign in to leave a comment or rate a post on the 1–5 star scale.

Keep comments useful and respectful. Ask a question, share a relevant experience, or thank someone for a helpful post.

Complete your member profile

Your profile helps other members get to know you. Open your profile while signed in and complete the details you want to share. You can start with a few basics and update it later.

Keep public profile information separate from private details you do not want other members to see.

Connect and send private messages

If a post displays a blue envelope icon, select it to contact the member. You can also open the Messages area to view conversations and message available connections.

Start with a respectful introduction and explain why you are reaching out. Use the messaging controls available in your account to read, reply, archive, or delete messages.

Some conversations may require the recipient to accept a connection before continuing. See Msg Help for explanations of actions such as Connect, Decline, and Reply.

Manage connections and unwanted contact

The Friends area lets you manage member connections. Use the available blocking controls if you do not want further contact from a member, and unblock them if you later choose to reconnect.

For guidance on messaging and connection controls, open the relevant Help page.
